    How does it work?

GOSI is the mandatory social-insurance scheme for all Saudi private-sector workers. It covers several branches: pension, unemployment insurance (SANED), and occupational hazards. Rates depend on nationality — Saudis pay a combined 21.6% (employee + employer) of the contribution base.

    GOSI line items

For a Saudi employee, the contribution splits across these branches:

    • Pension branch: 9% employee + 9% employer = 18%.
    • SANED (unemployment): 0.75% employee + 0.75% employer = 1.5%.
    • Occupational hazards: 2% employer only (employee pays nothing).
    • Saudi total: 9.75% employee + 11.85% employer = 21.6%.

    Non-Saudi contributions

Non-Saudi residents pay 0% from their salary. The employer pays 2% only for occupational hazards, covering workplace injuries and occupational diseases.

    Contribution base

The base is calculated on basic salary + housing allowance only. Transport and other allowances are excluded. Cap: SAR 45,000 / month; floor: SAR 1,500 for Saudi employees.

    Worked example

Saudi employee with SAR 8,000 basic + SAR 2,000 housing:

    1. Contribution base = 8,000 + 2,000 = SAR 10,000
    2. Employee pension (9%): SAR 900
    3. Employee SANED (0.75%): SAR 75
    4. Total employee deduction: SAR 975
    5. Employer pension (9%): SAR 900
    6. Employer SANED (0.75%): SAR 75
    7. Employer hazards (2%): SAR 200
    8. Total employer contribution: SAR 1,185
