How does it work?

This calculator starts from your birth date, on the calendar you pick, and ends with four answers: your current age as years, months, days on Hijri and Gregorian; your total days alive; the time left until your birthday on each calendar; and the day of the week of your birth.

How the numbers are worked out

On the Gregorian calendar, age is the span from your birth day to today, counted in whole years, whole months and leftover days. The Hijri figure is counted identically once both dates are moved to Hijri via the Umm al-Qura table — never by scaling the Gregorian age by a factor.

Example in numbers

A birth on 21 January 1988 (1 Jumada al-Thani 1408), checked on 3 November 2026:

  1. Gregorian age: 38 years, 9 months, 13 days
  2. Hijri age: 39 years, 11 months, 22 days
  3. Days alive: 14,166
  4. Next Gregorian birthday: 21 January 2027, 79 days away
  5. Next Hijri birthday: 1 Jumada al-Thani 1448 (11 November 2026), 8 days away
  6. Weekday of birth: Thursday

Lunar age versus solar age

A lunar year falls about eleven days short of a solar one, so your Hijri age pulls a year ahead of your Gregorian age roughly every 33 years, and on a Gregorian wall calendar your Hijri birthday arrives about eleven days sooner every year.

A birthday that skips some years

If you were born on 29 February, each new year of age begins on 1 March in non-leap years, which is where the birthday countdown points. A birth on a lunar month's 30th day, in a year when that month has only 29, rolls to day one of the following month.

Where it helps

  • Writing your Hijri age on a form that asks for that calendar.
  • Reading your age from an old birth record kept in Hijri.
  • Learning which day of the week you arrived.
  • Tracking how long is left until your birthday on both calendars.

To measure the span between your birth and someone else's, use the age gap calculator for two people. To get an age as of some other day, put both dates into the date span calculator. To match any date across Hijri and Gregorian, open the Hijri date converter.

If you track your team's contracts with them, Snad's HR and payroll software holds each person's contract, title, pay and documents, and produces a contracts report.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my age in Hijri?

Pick your birth calendar and enter the date; both ages, Hijri and Gregorian, appear together. The Hijri one measures from birth to today with both dates expressed in Hijri via the Umm al-Qura table.

My Hijri age is ahead of my Gregorian one. Why?

A lunar year is roughly eleven days shorter than a solar one, so the same lifetime holds more lunar years: close to 34 Hijri years per 33 Gregorian ones.

How many days old am I?

The tool counts every day since you were born up to today. That count is identical on both calendars: they disagree on how long months and years are, never on how many days have passed.

When does my Hijri birthday fall next?

The tool gives the next Hijri date, the days remaining before it, and your age on that day. Each year it lands about eleven days earlier than the year before on the Gregorian calendar.

Born on 29 February: how is the age counted?

The year completes on 1 March in non-leap years and on 29 February itself in leap years. The tool applies that rule to the age and to the next birthday.

I need my age on a specific date, not today. How?

This calculator stops at today's date. To get an age as of another day, put your birth date and that day into the date span calculator.
