# How to manage product brands in Snad

To create a brand in Snad ERP, open **General**, then **Products**, then **Brands**, press **New brand**, enter the **Name**, pick the products that belong to it, then press **Save**. To edit or delete it, open the **Actions** menu on its row.

## Before you start

- A Snad account with permission to view brands, and to create them if you want to add one ([roles and permissions](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/roles-permissions)).
- Your products already added ([add a product](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-product)), so you can pick them inside the brand.

## Steps

1. **Open the brands page.** In the sidebar open **General**, then **Products**, then **Brands**, and press **New brand** above the table.

2. **Enter the name and description.** Enter the **Name**, at least three characters; it is the only required field. The **Description** is optional.

3. **Pick an icon for the brand.** The icon is optional: press the **Icon** button beside the name, search for a symbol and click it. To undo, press **Remove icon**.

4. **Add products to the brand.** In **Add products** press **Select** beside each product of the brand, or **Select all**. You will find them all under **Selected products**. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/product-brands#adv-products)

5. **Save the brand.** Press **Save** at the top of the form to return to the list, where you find the new brand. **Back** leaves without saving. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/product-brands#adv-uses)

### Products inside a brand

The list shows parent products only, so product variants do not appear on their own. To find one product, type its name in the search field, and to remove one press the red delete button beside it.

A product has one brand only: if you pick a product that belongs to another brand, it moves to this brand when you save. You can also create a brand from the [Add product](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-product) screen itself.

### Edit or delete a brand

On the brand row press **Actions** then **Edit** to change its name, icon or products, or **Delete** to remove it. Clicking the row itself also opens the edit form.

Snad asks “Are you absolutely sure?”; **Confirm** deletes the brand and unlinks its products from it, and **Cancel** leaves it as it is. The products themselves are not deleted.

### The delete confirmation

Note that the dialog mentions deleting “related data”, but what actually happens is that the brand is deleted and its products are unlinked from it, so they stay without a brand.

### Where brands are used

You pick the brand of each product in the **Brand** field under **Product organization** when you [add a product](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-product), and set it per row in the [product import](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/import-products) preview. In the [point of sale](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/sell-at-pos), **By brand** shows the products of one brand.

Once saved, the number of products of each brand shows in the **Products** column of the list. To group products another way, see [manage product categories](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/product-categories).

## Common questions

### Is a product deleted if I delete its brand?

No. Only the brand is deleted and its link to the product is removed; the product stays with all its data and no brand. You can link it to another brand at any time.

### Can a product belong to more than one brand?

No. A product has a single brand, and if you add it to another brand it moves there and leaves the first.

### Why don't I see the New brand button?

The **New brand** button shows for people allowed to create brands. Ask your account admin to enable it under [roles and permissions](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/roles-permissions).

### How many characters does a brand name need?

At least three characters. Everything except the name is optional: the description, the icon and the products.
