# How to create a debit note in Snad

To create a debit note in Snad, open **Accounting**, then **Debit notes**, and press **Create debit note**. Pick the **Debit** and **Credit** accounts, enter the **Total**, then press **Save**. Snad posts the amount to both accounts and returns you to the list.

## Before you start

- A Snad account, with the Accounting app in your plan.
- Permission to create debit notes for your user ([how to grant permissions](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/roles-permissions)).
- The two accounts you will post to already exist in the chart of accounts ([how to add an account](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/chart-of-accounts)).

## Steps

1. **Open the debit notes screen.** In the sidebar, choose **Accounting**, then **Debit notes**, and press **Create debit note** above the list. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-debit-note#adv-edit)

## Advanced details

### What does the note post?

On save, Snad records the total twice: on the debit side of the account you picked in **Debit**, and on the credit side of the account you picked in **Credit**.

Because you choose the accounts, check them before saving. The credit note has a matching screen in the [credit note guide](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-credit-note), and for an entry with more than two lines see the [journal entry guide](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-journal-entry).

For money that actually comes into or leaves the cash account, use a [receipt voucher](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-receipt-voucher) or a [payment voucher](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-payment-voucher).

### The branch on the note

**Branch** starts on your user's own branch when there is one. You can change it, or pick **Clear** in the list to empty it.

The branch records which branch the note belongs to. Add your branches first in the [add a branch guide](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/add-branch).

### Find, edit or delete a note

Click any row in the list to open the note in the same form. You can change the date, issuer, description, attachments and total, then press **Save**.

The **Debit** and **Credit** fields are disabled on a saved note, so to change the accounts delete the note and create another.

A delete button shows below an open note, for users allowed to delete debit notes.

Search the list by the note number in the **Receipt number** field, or filter it by date, **Debit account** or **Credit account**.

You can print a saved note from the actions at the end of its row.

### No Create debit note button?

The button shows only to users allowed to create debit notes, and opening the screen itself needs permission to view it. Ask your Snad account admin to grant both in [roles and permissions](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/roles-permissions).

If you see “This app is not included in your plan”, Accounting is outside your current [plan](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/manage-subscription).
