# How to add a warehouse in Snad

To add a warehouse in Snad ERP, open **Inventory** in the sidebar, then the **Warehouses** tab, and press **New warehouse**. Enter the **Name**, add the **Country**, **City** and **Address** if you want, then press **Save**. The **Suggested accounting setup** window opens: press **Create and link** or **Later**.

## Before you start

- A Snad account, with the Inventory app in your plan ([manage your subscription](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/manage-subscription)) and permission to create warehouses for your user ([roles and permissions](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/roles-permissions)).
- The warehouse name, plus its address if you want to record it.

## Steps

1. **Open the warehouse list.** In the sidebar, choose **Inventory**, then the **Warehouses** tab, and press **New warehouse** above the list. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/add-warehouse#adv-access)

2. **Enter the warehouse name.** Enter the **Name**, the only required field, with at least 3 characters. Every other field is optional. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/add-warehouse#adv-fields)

3. **Link a user to the warehouse.** This step is optional. Under **Linked users**, press **Link a user** and pick whoever works in this warehouse. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/add-warehouse#adv-users)

4. **Save the warehouse.** Press **Save** at the top of the form. If you change your mind, press **Back** to return to the list without saving. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/add-warehouse#adv-what-saving-does)

5. **Review the accounting setup.** After saving, the **Suggested accounting setup** window opens with proposed accounts for the warehouse. Review them and press **Create and link**, or **Later** to finish another time. [Details](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/add-warehouse#adv-accounting)

6. **Check the warehouse is listed.** You return to the warehouse list, where the new warehouse shows with its name, city and address. You can now pick it on your [invoices](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-sales-invoice) and [stock transfers](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/stock-transfer). ## Messages that block saving

## Advanced details

### Which fields are required and optional

Only **Name** is required. **Country**, **State**, **City** and **Address** sit under “Address (Optional)” and can be left empty.

After saving, the list shows the **Name**, **City** and **Address** columns. The warehouse also becomes an option in a [POS session](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/open-pos-session).

### Linking users to a warehouse

The link is made once the warehouse is saved, and the note “Users will be linked once the record is saved” shows beside the field. A linked user sees this warehouse's data by default, and you limit what each user sees in [data access](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/data-access).

### What saving creates

Saving creates an account for the warehouse in the [chart of accounts](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/chart-of-accounts), named after the warehouse, and lists every stocked [product](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-product) of yours in the new warehouse at quantity zero.

So a new warehouse starts empty. Fill it with a [stock transfer](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/stock-transfer) from another warehouse, an [import of quantities from a file](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/import-stock), a [stocktake](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/stocktaking), a [stock adjustment](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/stock-settlement), or a purchase invoice.

### Finishing the accounting setup later

The window proposes the purchase and [damaged-inventory](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/stock-damaged) accounts for the warehouse, and shows below them an example of how a purchase invoice posts to the ledger. You can rename an account or pick an existing one before **Create and link**.

If you press **Later**, the warehouse stays saved with its accounts incomplete, and you can finish whenever you like. Account details are in the [accounting settings guide](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/accounting-settings).

### Editing a warehouse

On the warehouse row, open the **Actions** menu and choose **Edit**, or click the row itself, to change the name or address.

The warehouse list has no delete option. Renaming changes only the warehouse name; its account in the chart of accounts keeps the name it was created with.

### No Warehouses tab or New warehouse button?

The **Warehouses** tab shows for users allowed to view warehouses, and **New warehouse** for users allowed to create them. Ask your account admin.

### How do I add a new warehouse in Snad?

### What do I need to create a warehouse?

Just a name of 3 characters or more. **Country**, **City** and **Address** are optional.

### Does a new warehouse start with my product quantities?

No. Your stocked products are added to it at quantity zero, and you fill it with a [stock transfer](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/stock-transfer), a quantities import or a [purchase invoice](https://www.snad.io/en/guide/create-purchase-invoice). ### Do I have to create the warehouse's accounts right away?

No. Press **Later** in the **Suggested accounting setup** window and finish the setup whenever you like.

### Can I link the storekeeper to their warehouse?

Yes, with the **Link a user** button on the warehouse form. A linked user sees this warehouse's data by default.
